I’m starting off the list of the best coffee shops in Encinitas with one I recently discovered, Sip-n-Sea Cafe. This adorable spot, just minutes from the beach, opened in 2023. Without question, it’s making its mark on the Encinitas coffee scene. With organic and fair trade coffee and teas, made from scratch sweeteners, and smoothies packed with “superfood” ingredients- this is a habit you can feel good about.
This colorful and cozy family-owned coffee shop in Leucadia serves up all your favorite coffee drinks! In addition to “the basics” and latte options, you have to try a Gold Brew crafted with cold brew, cream and subtle flavors. They also have fun boba drinks, slush, lotus energy spritzers, and delicious smoothie bowls. Give it a try- this might be your new favorite coffee shop by the beach!

During my last visit I tried a matcha latte- yum! They also have a small sampling of delicious pastries if you need a bite to eat.

The menu is on the smaller side, but Coffee Coffee has all your favorite drinks such as drip coffee, espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, and chai. They also have a variety of mouth-watering pastries right at the counter, so be ready for temptation!

Ideal for the “foodie in flip-flops”, it’s situated conveniently along Highway 101 near Beacon’s Beach, making it a prime spot you don’t want to miss!

Nectarine Grove Cafe is known for its 100% gluten free breakfasts made with locally sourced, organic ingredients. Although locals are drawn here for breakfast, the coffee can’t be missed! Nectarine Grove features chic indoor areas and expansive outdoor seating on its generous patio.
In addition to their large menu, you can find pastries, espresso drinks, and smoothies. If you like sweet drinks, try the pumpkin spice latte or chai latte. Or try something with a kick- the Spicy Mayan Mocha is one of my newest addictions!

Pannikin Coffee & Tea undoubtedly stands out as the most charming coffee house in North County, San Diego. Housed in a converted railroad station, its vibrant yellow exterior immediately captures your attention and draws you in. Although I love Pannikin, they don’t have wi-fi, so this isn’t the ideal spot to work while you sip. However, this is a prime location to meet up with friends or bring the family for coffee on a relaxed weekend morning.

Locals love Lofty Coffee because they offer fabulous coffee and friendly customer service. They have numerous locations around North County, San Diego including Encinitas, Carlsbad, Solana Beach and Little Italy. However, I think the Encinitas location is the best one! Whether you’re seeking a tranquil spot to enjoy a morning cup of joe or a cozy setting for an afternoon catch-up session with friends, Lofty Coffee delivers an unparalleled coffee experience.
When you visit, try my favorite- the salty/sweet salted caramel latte. For a unique coffee beverage, try the cardamom spiced Turkish latte or spicy Aztec Mocha with cinnamon and cayenne.
If you need something to eat try one of their egg sandwiches, acai, organic pastries or muffins made from scratch. Lofty has gluten free options too.

As you make your way into downtown Encinitas, your will see Ironsmith Coffee Roasters next to the famous “Encinitas” sign. This U.S. veteran owned coffee shop is the perfect place to grab a drink in Encinitas. One of the best reasons to visit Ironsmith are their inviting staff and consistently crafted coffee.
Ironsmith roasts their coffee in nearby San Marcos. Choose from coffee favorites such as macchiatos, espresso, lattes, and more. I find their espresso drinks milder than other coffee shops, so this is the place to go if you like a little less of a coffee buzz!
They offer convenient online carts for pre-orders and coffee subscriptions too.

Obviously, one of the best places to get a coffee buzz is Better Buzz small batch coffee roasters. With locations throughout Southern California, it’s easy to find one of their trendy shops for a quick pick-me-up. The Encinitas coffee shop is a lively space downtown amid shopping and restaurants. This is the perfect location to meet a group of friends for coffee before the beach or shopping nearby.
Better Buzz has an extensive menu of coffee, smoothies, and breakfast options such as bowls, toasts, sandwiches and wraps. If you are searching for a new favorite, try unique creations such as Moroccan spice iced coffee, horchata lattes, or Hazelnut Divinity. Next, explore the coffee at Goodonya Organic Eatery. This restaurant states “it’s all about making REAL food and drinks that make you feel GOOD.”
The espresso drinks at Goodonya include everything from flat whites, Americanos, mochas, and more. My favorite is one of their many lattes- you can choose from “salted”, “dulce”, “repair”, “cashew vanilla”, “iced mint” or “iced naughty” that tastes like coffee ice cream!
In addition to coffee, you can find delicious breakfast and lunch menus, raw cold pressed juices, kombucha, and wine. Make sure to stop by the market for greeting cards, bath products and artisanal gifts before you leave!

Just across the 101 you will find Philz Coffee in Encinitas. This is one of several Philz locations in California. The interior features a blend of rustic and industrial elements, with comfortable seating areas where customers can relax.
Unlike traditional coffee shops, at Philz, you’re encouraged to explore different options and find the blend that suits your taste preferences. Baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, with a passion for brewing coffee.
One of the best reasons to visit Philz is their unique menu choices. From ecstatic iced coffee, cold brew, and light, medium and dark coffee blends, On my last visit, I tried a sweet & creamy gingersnap latte (and loved it)! In addition to coffee, you can nibble on pastries, breakfast burritos, and English muffin sandwiches.

As I make my way down the list of best coffee shops in North County, San Diego I can’t leave out Pipes, Cafe. Although Pipes Cafe is a casual breakfast spot in Cardiff, it’s close to Encinitas. Plus, Pipes has the best coffee in Cardiff!
Roll out of bed on a lazy weekend and nurse a hangover with a massive portion of eggs, hash browns, and a slug of coffee at Pipes. I may or may not have done this a few times during my college days, haa!
