Things to Do in Your Two Day Granada Itinerary- Try a Tapas Tour
After wandering through the city for a few hours, you probably will have worked up an appetite. If you are looking for fun things to do in Granada, go on a tapas tour to taste all the delicious food Granada has to offer. Granada is the home of tapas bars, so prepare to taste tantalizing food everywhere you go in the city. When you order a drink, you will get a tapa for free. Amazing, right?!
We opted to sample tapas in Granada Spain with Granada Tapas Tours. They offer lunch and dinner tours with a variety of options and price points. The “Hidden Gems” tour worked for our schedule and included 4 drinks and 6 tapas for 50 Euros. They provided information about the history of Granada and anecdotes about tapas we wouldn’t have known without a personalized tour. Keep reading for the venues we visited, if you prefer to do your own tour for free.
Casa Colon
Our first stop on the food tour was to upscale Casa Colon. If you are trying to decide what to eat in Granada, Casa Colon has amazing spanish food! We tried a chicken curry tapa and washed it down with Tinto de Verano. Tinto de Verano is a summer drink of wine and lemonade that is preferred by locals over sangria. Make sure to try it while in Granada. This is definitely a place I would suggest returning for dinner because the food was incredible, the ambiance was relaxing and the service was prompt.
Casa Enrique
Next, visit Casa Enrique for an authentic Spanish tapas experience. Here you can sample delicious Spanish food In Granada and strong Spanish wine. The interior is dark and moody, with wine barrels lining the shelves and ham hanging in the rafters. The restaurant has a cozy back room and private wine cellar. Here you can learn about Spanish wine and tips to choose wine you will love. This is the perfect spot for a lively bar experience in the city.
Taberna Malvasia
Following Casa Enrique, visit Taberna Malvasia. It has slightly industrial decor, and a lively, bright wine bar. Most of the seating here is at small tables with barstools or at the bar itself. Here you can taste roasted pork cutlets and traditional ham croquettes with spicy aioli. This is an excellent wine bar in Granada that perfectly pairs with tapas.
Mas Que Vinos
Last but not least, travel to Mas Que Vinos Taberna. This restaurant is decorated with white brick and has a Spanish tiled floor which imparts coziness. Try a sample of their meatballs, au jus with bread, and delicious chicken curry. This is one of the best cozy Spanish restaurants in Granada that specializes in tapas, meat and seafood.
Seeking Stamps Tip: After you finish, stroll through nearby Plaza Bib-Rambla. After Granada was conquered, Catholic monarchs utilized this beautiful square for entertainment, parades, and more. It has a lovely central fountain and has numerous shops and restaurants.
Granada 2 Day Itinerary: Day 2
The Alhambra, Alcazaba and Generalife
Undoubtedly, you cannot visit the city of Granada without witnessing The Alhambra fortress and palace complex built in 1238. This is one of the most visited attractions in all of Spain. This is an essential place to see in your Granada 2 day itinerary.
This well preserved complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an absolute masterpiece of Islamic architecture. You will be amazed at the beauty of the interior rooms, mosaic tiles, ornate ceilings, and beautifully manicured gardens. The property is expansive, so allow several hours to maximize your visit.
Make sure to include the Nasrid Palaces and Generalife gardens in your tour. Ticket prices begin at 14 euros and there are daytime and evening times offered. Plan to devote a half day to immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Al Alhambra, Alcazaba, Partal and Generalife. They can be visited from 08:30 a.m.until closing time (check website because hours of operation are seasonal).
Alhambra Tips
Here are a few Granada Alhambra tips that will enhance your experience at the Alhambra. It should be noted that tickets sell out months in advance, so purchase yours early. If tickets are sold out the day you want to visit, check the website after midnight on the day you want to visit for cancellations.
Additionally, consider joining an Alhambra semi-private guided tour to understand the mesmerizing history. Choosing a “skip-the-line” option will help with the crowds.
Seeking Stamps Tip: Make sure to bring water, a hat and sunscreen with you. You will spend a significant time outside during your visit.
Enjoy the View From Mirador de San Nicolás
In addition to admiring the Alhambra up close, make sure to go to the Mirador San Nicolas for an unbelievable view of the complex. This viewpoint is extremely popular at sunset when the Alhambra is illuminated in a golden glow with the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the distance.
The area is situated in a small plaza and there are shops at restaurants nearby. The walk is steep, so consider grabbing a taxi from the Alhambra to the site. Enjoy the view, have lunch or dinner and then walk back down the hill through the Albaicin neighborhood. This is one of the favorite things to do in Granada, Spain!
Seeking Stamps Tip: If the viewing area is packed, walk to the mosque nearby. You can enter the gardens and see the same view without the crowds.
Although everyone raves about viewing the Alhambra at sunset, the views are still gorgeous in the afternoon. If you prefer to skip the crowds, don’t feel like you have to go at an exact time.
Visit Monastery Santa Isabel La Real to Taste Cookies From Sequestered Nuns
Have you heard about the hidden place in Granada where sequestered nuns sell cookies? At the Monastery Santa Isabel La Real, cloistered nuns vow to stay within the monastery for life. Hidden from view, they sell cookies from behind a lazy Susan to support the monastery.
If you are wondering where to find the “Lazy Susan cookies”, go to the Monastery a few minutes away from Mirador de San Nicolas. Next, look for the small wooden door and sign that says, “Hay Dulces Artesanos”. Ring the bell, make your selection, and place your money on the lazy Susan. Then you will be rewarded with some homemade treats! It’s truly a charming thing to do in Granada, Spain!
The Monastery Santa Isabel Hours of Operation:
- Daily 9am-6pm
Wander Through the Albaicin and Do Some Souvenir Shopping
Enjoy getting lost wandering through the Albaicin neighborhood which is another UNESCO World Heritage Site. In what once was the Arab Quarter of Granada, there are souvenir shops, shisha, and restaurants to explore as you walk back to the city center. You can even take a walking tour here to learn more about its history.
What to See In Granada Spain in 2 Days – Visit the Hammam Baths
Unquestionably, walking in the heat all day will wear you out. We chose to visit Hammam Al Andalus Arab baths in the evening for a little pampering. Relax in the steam and soak in the varying temperatures of warm and cool coed baths. Sip tea and decompress while you prepare for your treatment. They offer different combinations of baths and massages, called “Mimma”. They also offer “Midra” with hot stone purification. Book your visit to the baths here.
You will remain in your bathing suit, and be escorted to a group room for the massage. They offer stretching, relaxing and deep tissue massages. Importantly, not have expectations for the same intensity of deep tissue massages as the US. They definitely use a gentler touch. Nonetheless, it was a relaxing experience. Services begin about 70 euros depending on the treatment type and length (but are subject to change).
Seeking Stamps Tip: There are lockers and thin towels are provided. No shoes are allowed within the bath area. I recommend bringing an additional towel and change of clothes.
See a Flamenco Show In the Sacromonte Caves
The Sacromonte cave houses, neighboring the Albaicin neighborhood, are inhabited by a tight-knit community. Formerly known as gypsies, “Roma” as now they prefer to be called, have made homes deep within the caves. The Sacromonte is a fabulous place to watch a Zambra Flamenco show, which incorporates singing and dance.
To be honest, this is a bit touristy. However, I really wanted to see the inside of the caves. The show was lively and entertaining. Flamenco shows are vibrant, explosive and colorful. The hour time frame of the performance was enough time to have the experience without taking up too much of the evening. Several show times are available and cost 24 Euros. Book a Flamenco show if you have 2 days in Granada, Spain.
Sites to Consider If You Have More Than 2 Days in Granada, Spain
Granada Science Park
If you have additional time in Granada, consider day trips to Granada Science Park. It is a 15 minutes walk from the city. According to the museum website, over 11 million people visit the center and it is one of the most popular museums in Andalusia. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to visit this fabulous science museum.
Entrance Fees for Granada Science Park: 11 Euros for the Museum and Biodome
Hours of Operation for Granada Science Park:
- Closed Mondays
- Tuesdays-Sundays 10:00-7:00
Seeking Stamps Tip: Tickets often sell out, so buys yours online in advance of your visit.
Basílica de San Juan de Dios
Also consider seeing the Basilica of San Juan Dios if you have time in your itinerary. This is one of the most impressive Spanish baroque cathedrals. It is located close to the San Jeronimo Monastery.
Basílica de San Juan de Dios Admission: 4 Eros (includes audio guide)
Opening Hours for the Basilica de San Juan de Dios:
- Monday-Saturday 10:00-7:00

Things to Know Before You Go to Granada For Two Days
When to Visit Granada:
Granada is a year-round destination. However, September and October are ideal months to visit Europe when the weather is pleasant and the crowds have lessened. The winter months, including December through February, can be rainy and cold. March to May is another enjoyable time to see the city, but try to avoid the Easter holiday. If you visit over the summer months, book activities and hotels well in advance. July and August can be very hot and crowded, so try to avoid that time of year, if possible.
How Long to Visit Granada:
Granada is a small city, so two days in Granada will give you adequate time to explore main sights. Plan to devote one day to visit the Alhambra and explore the city on the other. If you like a slower pace, consider visiting for 3-4 days.
Language In Granada:
Although the official language of Granada is Spanish, English is widely spoken. Unlike other Spanish cities, Catalan and Basque are not spoken here. We had no language barriers that proved to be difficult during our Granada vacation. Nonetheless, it’s polite (and fun) to learn a few Spanish phrases before you go.
Siesta:
Yes, siesta is a real phenomenon where many small shops and restaurants close during the mid-day. Plan accordingly when venturing out. Fortunately, most of the large tourist attractions stay open.
Granada Meal Times:
Contrary to the U.S., lunch in Spain is the largest meal of the day and takes place around 2-2:30 pm. Dinner is often smaller and eaten later at 9:00-10:00 pm.
What to Wear in Granada:
Granada has uneven pavement and slippery cobblestones on many of the streets. You will also be walking up and down hills during your visit to the city. Do your feet a favor and wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. I made the mistake of wearing my “cuter” sneakers and had horrible blisters. I was pretty miserable and had to buy a new pair of shoes during my trip.
Granada Safety:
Granada is generally a safe city, but pickpockets are known to strike in tourist spots and transit. We felt very safe walking around at night (as two female travelers). Keep your passport and most of your cash in the hotel safe to be cautious during your 2 days in Granada.
Driving During Your Granada 2 Day Itinerary:
A rental car is not necessary here and may prove to be more of a hassle. Streets are tiny and parking is limited. Taxis have access to roads that tourists do not, and sometimes Google maps will lead you to places where you cannot drive.

Granada 2 Day Itinerary: Where to Stay in Granada
Hospes Palacio de los Patos
We chose to stay at Hospes Palacio de los Patos during our time in Granada. This historic hotel in Granada Spain was formerly a 19th century palace and it is centrally located within the city. Accommodations can either be in the modern wing, or the historic side. I highly recommend choosing a historic Junior Suite with vaulted ceilings and garden views. The Hospes chain is highly regarded and we had exceptional service and dining. We would not hesitate to stay here if we visit Granada again in the future.
