Where is Krabi, Thailand?
Krabi is a city in southern Thailand on the continent of Asia. Krabi Province is between Phang Nga and Trang, next to the Andaman Sea.

How to Get to Krabi, Thailand
First, plan to reach Thailand via Bangkok. The international airport of Thailand is Suvarnabhumi or BKK (for those of us that can’t pronounce it).
Next, you might wonder how to get to Krabi from Bangkok. There are several options to get from Bangkok to Krabi by train or from Krabi to Bangkok by bus.
The simplest way to reach Krabi is by domestic flight. Multiple airlines such as Thai Air, Lion Air and Air Asia make multiple daily trips to Krabi International Airport. The variety of flight options helps keep prices competitive. The flight time from Bangkok to Krabi is approximately 1.5 hours.
Once you arrive, you will need to arrange transportation from Krabi airport to Ao Nang. The airport is about 9 miles from the Krabi city center.
Seeking Stamps Tip: Make arrangements with your hotel for transportation from the airport. In our situation, we were picked up and then driven by boat to the resort.
Is Krabi Worth Visiting For One Week?
Nestled next to the Andaman Sea, Krabi comprises over 150 pristine islands. During one week on Krabi you can explore the interior laced with lush jungles and exotic wildlife. Steep limestone rock formations and clear blue waters make Krabi’s scenery unique. Krabi is well known for Ao Nang and Railay beaches, and island hopping to jaw-dropping Koh Lanta and Phi Phi Islands. In addition, Krabi offers all kinds of thrilling outdoor activities for adventure lovers. All of these reasons make Krabi worth visiting.
I have traveled all of the world including the Maldives, Seychelles, Indonesia, and French Polynesia. I rank Krabi within that list of truly gorgeous beach destinations. Krabi is definitely worth visiting!
When is the Best Time to Visit Krabi?
When you plan your trip, you want to visit when the weather is best in Krabi. Krabi has hot, humid, tropical weather year round. Krabi dry season, from December to March, is the peak time to visit. During peak season prepare to pay higher prices for accommodations and activities.
May to October is Krabi monsoon season. The southwest monsoon brings heavy rain to the area. Keep in mind that “rain” in Thailand can mean torrential downpours! During our stay in Krabi we experienced a perfectly clear sunny day, suddenly becoming a monsoon. We were drenched from head to toe! Typically, the rain comes in bursts, so you can wait it out.
Seeking Stamps Tip: Monsoons differ from one side of Thailand to the other, so check weather patterns for all of the destinations on your Thailand itinerary before you make reservations.

Is 1 Week in Krabi Enough?
There are plenty of activities to occupy your time in Krabi. I recommend a minimum of three days here. Ideally, spend 7 days in Krabi so you have enough time to sufficiently explore the area.
Krabi vs. Phuket
As you plan your vacation in Thailand, a common question is whether to visit Krabi or Phuket. No matter which area you choose, both Krabi and Phuket have something to offer.
Phuket is smaller, yet more populated. Traveltriangle.com states that Phuket is just over 200 square miles plus 33 islands compared to Krabi which is over 1800 square miles and includes 80 islands.
According to Wikipedia, as of 2020 the Krabi population was over 377,000 people vs over 500,000 in Phuket. Krabi is ten times larger than Phuket, giving you plenty of space to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Phuket is more developed than Krabi. If you are looking for hotels, restaurants, and nightlife go to Phuket. However that also means more crowds and a more touristy vibe. Phuket is a better choice for families with children.
If you are looking for more seclusion, nature and relaxation, spend one week in Krabi. Krabi has more rock climbing, jungle trekking, and natural beauty. Krabi is peaceful, and less touristy for travelers looking to escape it all. I disagree with the notion that only backpackers visit Krabi.

Ao Nang Beach is north of Railay and Phra Nang beaches. It is a lovely stretch of sand when the tourists and long-tail boats don’t crowd the area. There are also plenty of shops and cafes nearby.
Ton Sai Beach
Visit Tonsai Beach if you prefer to have a more remote beach in Krabi. Another attraction in Tonsai is rock climbing. Read more here about Tonsai Beach.
Railay Beach
Further south from Ao Nang Beach, is Railay Beach. This beach is lively and can get crowded with boats and people in peak season. It is a common drop-off and pick up point for Krabi island hopping trips to Phuket, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.

Each island is its own unique slice of heaven with powder-white sand, cerulean waters and epic views. Clearly, each island needs its own blog post to do them justice. With just 7 days in Krabi, you probably won’t have time to see them all. These are the best islands near Krabi Thailand:

1 Week in Krabi: Things to Do in Krabi
Phra Nang Cave (Princess Cave)
When you need a break from the scorching Thailand sun, visit Phra Nang Cave. This cave is located at Phra Nang Beach on the Railay Peninsula.
The Phra Nang cave story is a tragic one. According to local legends, “Phra Nang was an Indian princess who was killed in a shipwreck. In another tale, Phra Nang was the wife of a fisherman who was lost at sea. She lived out the rest of her days in the cave, awaiting her husband’s return.”
Inside the cave you will see a plethora of “lingham” (um . . . phallic shaped) offerings of all shapes, colors and sizes. All humor aside, this is a sacred religious site. Locals leave penis shaped offerings for the goddess Shiva. It is believed that these will bring fertility and safe sea travels.
Visit Krabi Town
At some point during your time in Krabi, make sure to visit Krabi Town. You will find local handicrafts, shops and restaurants. Sign up for a Thai cooking class, or browse the stalls of local vendors, and watch performers at Krabi’s energetic night market.

Whether you are an experienced climber or a novice, there are rock climbing classes and tours for every level.
Krabi Railay Viewpoint
Don’t miss an opportunity to climb up to see the amazing scenery from the Railay Viewpoint. The way up is a bit of a challenge. You have to climb up a steep hill, covered with vines and roots to reach the top. You will notice the warning signs at the entrance, but that didn’t deter us.
Seeking Stamps Tip: Reconsider trying to make it up to the Krabi viewpoint if it has been raining. It is extremely slippery and muddy. Wear something that can get ruined from the reddish mud.

Emerald Pools opening hours:
